A Chilly Success: Ocean and Sports Diver Training Weekend at Caperwray
Last weekend, Staffordshire Divers hosted an exciting training weekend at the renowned Caperwray Dive Centre. Famous for its clear waters and unique underwater attractions, Caperwray provided the perfect backdrop for this transformative event. Despite the brisk 7°C water temperature, spirits were high as divers achieved their Ocean Diver and Sports Diver certifications.
Conquering the Chilly Waters
Under the guidance of our lead instructor, Lee Ingram, participants began their journey with a detailed briefing. This session set the tone for the weekend, ensuring that everyone felt prepared and confident for their dives. Both Ocean and Sports Diver trainees tackled rigorous but rewarding sessions, building skills and confidence with every dive.
By the end of the weekend, these newly certified Ocean Divers were ready to explore depths of up to 20 meters with confidence.

Ocean Diver trainees focused on mastering the foundational skills for safe and enjoyable diving. Their training sessions included:
- Perfecting buoyancy control for smooth underwater movement.
- Hands-on equipment management, from assembly to maintenance.
- Practicing underwater navigation using compasses and natural landmarks.
- Developing emergency response skills, such as air-sharing drills and controlled ascents.
By the end of the weekend, they were fully equipped to dive to depths of up to 20 meters with confidence.
For Sports Divers
Sports Diver candidates faced advanced challenges that tested their growing expertise. Their training covered:
- Completing deeper dives to a maximum depth of 35 meters.
- Mastering rescue scenarios, including towing and surface emergency management.
- Learning decompression theory and safe ascent techniques for extended dives.
- Refining their dive planning and management skills for complex dives.
