First breaths underwater: a busy evening in the pool
POOL TRAINING · SEPTEMBER 2026
First underwater breaths for some, the next stage of training for others.
A busy night in the pool
Our pool session on 28 September brought together four Try Divers and two trainees continuing their Ocean Diver course.
It was a good example of the different stages of learning happening within the club, from discovering diving for the first time to developing skills for open water.
What is a Try Dive?
A Try Dive introduces the experience of breathing underwater using scuba equipment, with an instructor there to guide you.
The pool provides a setting in which to get familiar with the equipment, ask questions and find out how being underwater feels.
You do not need to have decided to take a full course. It is an opportunity to explore whether diving could be a hobby for you.
Building the foundations
Alongside our Try Divers, two Ocean Diver trainees continued their course. Pool training gives learners time to practise practical skills before progressing to suitable open-water training.
Skills develop through explanation, demonstration and practice, with instructors helping trainees work through the different parts of the course.
A club effort
Sessions like this depend on the instructors and helpers who give their time to support training and introduce others to diving.
Thank you to everyone who helped, and to everyone who joined us in the pool. Whether it was your first experience or another step in your course, it was great to have you involved.
Fancy trying it yourself?
Our Try Dives cost £35 per person. Contact us to ask about availability and the requirements before booking.
Payment and the required medical forms must be completed before a session is confirmed.
